How to Get Your Business Recommended by ChatGPT

No one can promise ChatGPT will recommend you, but you can make your business easy to find and easy to quote. Let AI search crawlers read your site, answer real customer questions clearly at the top of each page, keep the same business details everywhere and earn reviews and mentions on other sites people trust.

More of your customers now ask an AI assistant before they search: “Who is a good immigration lawyer in Miami?” or “What does a kitchen remodel cost in Doral?” ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot answer with a few names and links. This new side of SEO goes by many names (AI search optimization, GEO, answer engine optimization), but the work behind it is the same: be easy to find, easy to understand and easy to trust. Here is what we do, as a content marketing agency, to get there.
How AI assistants pick a business
AI assistants with web search read pages the way a careful researcher would: they look for a page that answers the exact question, from a source that seems real, and they check it against other sources. That gives you four jobs:
- Let them in. Their crawlers have to be able to read your site.
- Answer the question. In plain words, near the top of the page.
- Be consistent. The same name, address, phone and services everywhere.
- Be talked about. Reviews, directories, local news, partners.
1. Let the AI crawlers read your site
OpenAI uses a crawler called OAI-SearchBot to find pages for ChatGPT’s search answers, and it says sites that want to appear there should not block it (OpenAI, overview of its crawlers). A separate crawler, GPTBot, collects content for training; you can block that one and still appear in search.
Google’s AI Overviews use Google’s regular index: Google says there is nothing special to add, only that your page must be indexed and allowed to show a snippet (Google Search Central, AI features). Microsoft’s Copilot draws on Bing, so set up Bing Webmaster Tools as well as Google Search Console.
Ask whoever runs your site to check your robots.txt file. We still find sites that block every bot by accident.
2. Answer real questions at the top of the page
An AI assistant quotes the passage that answers the question. If your page opens with “Welcome to our website, we are passionate about excellence,” there is nothing to quote.
- Start each page with the answer. Two or three sentences that say what you do, for whom, where, and what it costs or how it’s priced. Every page on this site opens that way.
- Write the questions customers really ask. “How long does a green card renewal take?” “Do you charge for an estimate?” Each one can be a section or a short article.
- Be specific. Towns you serve, hours, languages, services, ranges. Vague pages get skipped.
- Put a real name on it. Who wrote it and why they know. AI assistants, like people, trust content with an author and a business behind it.
This is the core of our content marketing services: we interview you for twenty minutes about a topic and turn your expertise into an article that answers it better than anyone else in your area.
3. Keep your business details the same everywhere
AI assistants cross-check. If your website says you’re in Doral, your Google profile says Miami and an old directory lists a phone number you no longer use, you look less certain. Clean up your Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook and your industry directories so they all match. This is the same work that helps you in the Google map; see our map pack guide.
4. Get mentioned on sites people trust
When an assistant recommends three businesses, it is usually repeating what many sources say. Reviews on Google and Yelp, a listing on the bar association or your trade association, a local news story, a supplier’s page that names you: each one is another source saying you exist and do good work.
What about llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed file that gives AI tools a short map of your site. It costs little to add (this site has one), but no major AI company has said it relies on it, so treat it as a small extra, not a strategy.
How to check where you stand
Once a month, ask ChatGPT, Google and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, for your service and your city, and write down who shows up. If you don’t, look at the businesses that do: their pages usually answer the question more directly, and more sites mention them.
Want us to do it?
